Description

STeDe EMJMD aims to create experts in the area of sustainable territorial development. More concretely it trains professionals to be able to help organizations acting in the territory (enterprises, local communities, civil society organizations) to draft sustainable development policies for economic, social, environmental, international and intercultural management. The Master concerns the economic competitiveness, social inclusion, environmental protection, international cooperation and intercultural relation challenges of territorial development focussing not only on local communities, but also on enterprises, non-state actors and civil society organizations. It also aims to offer an example of sustainable territory involving all local organizations, which should have human resources available and able to promote sustainable development. The programme can be attended only on a full-time basis. Attending lectures is compulsory; no distance learning will be provided.

Teaching languages are English and French.

The Master refers to the ability of:

– giving recommendations in the area of sustainable territorial development;

– taking part in the idea, analysis and management of a sustainable development policy on the territory;

– assessing the different validation tools for sustainable development actions and policies within public and private territorial organizations.

 

Job opportunities:

Job opportunities for alumni could be found in all sectors where sustainable development actions should be implemented, in particular in territorial organizations responsible for the creation of sustainable territories (territorial communities, enterprises, non-state actors and civil society organizations, local governments), the central government and international organizations.

Potential posts are: environmental adviser; sustainable development manager in local communities, public administrations, enterprises, civil society organizations & local governments; representative within local public institutions, national and international institutions, enterprises, trade unions & professional bodies.

 

Admission criteria:

Candidates with education in human and social sciences (economics, geography, sociology, development, management, law, etc.) or hard sciences (agriculture, environmental sciences, engineering, architecture, forestry, etc.) will be accepted to the Master. Candidates are requested to have a first cycle degree of 180 ECTS (Licenciatura, Bachelor degree, Laurea, Licence) or an equivalent degree (diplôme d’école d’ingénieurs, école de commerce etc.).

A good command of English or French, spoken and written, is required.

Programme structure

STeDe Master is a master level degree course and consists of 120 ECTS credits in two academic years (From October to August). All the course units and educational activities are offered in the four participating universities through a specific mobility scheme for the students: each participant will study in at least 3 different countries.

Fourth semester

Internship (12 ECTS) and Thesis (18 ECTS) are jointly carried out under the responsibility of one of the 6 partner Universities, where the student is spending his/her 4th semester (host University). The case study can also be outside the Country of the host University. The Student can carry out only one internship from the 4th semester onwards, also in case of late graduation.

Non-EU Scholarship Holders will have their 4th semester at one of the European Universities of the consortium. EU Scholarship Holders will have their 4th semester at the Universidade Catolica Dom Bosco, Université de Ougadougou, University of Johannesburg. Exceptions could be considered, if adequately motivated. The Committee will have the final decision.

Self-sponsored students does not have any limitation in choosing the hosting institution for their 4th semester.

Diploma

At the end of the course students will be awarded a second level degree (Master’s level degree) that gives access to third level degree courses (Doctoral’s level degree courses).

Delivered Degree:

Università degli studi di Padova and KU Leuven will deliver a joint degree to the students having coimpleted the Master curriculum; the Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne will deliver a national degree ; both degrees will be recognized also as a Brazilian degree by the Universidade Catolica Dom Bosco only for the students  having spent the 4th semester in that University.
